My son, Harrison has been a patient of Dr. Jyonouchi’s at the PCRCD for more than 3 years. Over this time I have witnessed her dedication to the treatment, health and well being of my son. She truly evaluates each child as a whole and tailors a treatment plan for that child. She also takes the time to explain details, ensuring the parents are completely informed and understand the diagnosis and method of treatment. Dr. Jyonouchi is gifted in diagnosing and treating children with rare or puzzling symptoms. She uses evidenced based medicine and is very comprehensive in her evaluations. Harrison was examined by a number of doctors/specialists before seeing Dr. Jyonouchi where he was finally diagnosed with severe dietary protein intolerance. Prior to seeing her Harrison had self limited his diet, eventually stopped eating almost all food and began falling from the growth charts at a rather rapid rate. Under her treatment Harrison has been on a free amino acid formula called Elecare and has made great progress. And even though he can not eat most dietary proteins, under her care he continues to flourish. Dr. Jyonouchi has also been able to identify and treat Harrison for an autoimmune condition that was causing him to have frequent and extended periods off ilIness which resulted in him missing a lot of school or frequent (weekly) calls from school for me to pick him up. The unique ability for PCRCD to conduct customized laboratory tests that were unavailable to any other doctor we visited has resulted in a treatment plan that has significantly improved the life of my son. My son also has an autism spectrum disorder and as a parent of a child with autism I can’t explain how much of a difference it makes in your child when they are feeling better, have less discomfort, have improved sleep and are receiving proper nutrition. I feel it is important to mention that in addition to office visits Dr. Jyonouchi has held gatherings for parents of her patients to discuss topics related to children with complex healthcare needs. Clearly her involvement with her patients does not end when they leave her office. Dr. Jyonouchi’s dedication goes far beyond the treatment of her patients as exemplified by her outstanding research and publications that examine associations between children with autism spectrum disorders and immune responses. Her publication in the May 2005 Journal of Pediatrics concerning dietary intervention as a “treatment” for autism was an important contribution to the field of autism research in an area that has long been questioned. Dr. Jyonouchi is also continually training medical students/fellows and has them participate in the evaluations of children with complex issues so they will be able to treat such cases on their own. Dr. Jyonouchi is undeniably an exceptional doctor and researcher and we are truly thankful for PCRCD and how it has helped Harrison. Thank you for the opportunity to bring PCRCD and Dr. Harumi Jyonouchi to your attention. Sincerely, Lisa Huguenin
